The Hessdalen valley in Norway has been known since the 1800s for an unexplained phenomenon called the "Hessdalen Lights".

Project Hessdalen is a non-profit volunteer Citizen Science organization that studies this phenomenon.

Our goal is to capture measurable, verifiable data that can be shared openly with scientists and the public worldwide.

The Blue Box is the world’s first fully autonomous, multi-sensor anomaly detection system, continuously monitoring the Hessdalen sky since 1998.

Inspire research

Hessdalen offers a rare opportunity to study a persistent natural mystery with modern tools.
During the 1984 field study, 53 phenomena were documented with instruments ranging from cameras and radar to magnetometers and infrared viewers — sparking international scientific interest that continues today.

Create awareness

We share findings through public reports, livestreams, conferences, and educational outreach.
By making our data accessible and engaging the public, we aim to promote curiosity, critical thinking, and responsible research into unexplained aerial phenomena.
